About Us

About Watford U.S.

Somers Re Ltd. (formerly Watford Re) established two insurance companies to target the U.S. marketplace focusing on casualty program business: Watford Specialty Insurance Company (“WSIC”), a New Jersey domiciled excess and surplus lines carrier and Watford Insurance Company (“WIC”), a New Jersey domiciled admitted carrier. Together these companies are referred to and branded as “Watford U.S.”

The Watford U.S. companies write business through a select network of Program Administrator/Managing General Agent partners to create unique insurance products by developing specific underwriting guidelines, authorities and procedures. We at Watford U.S. value our relationships and affiliations with Program Administrators/Managing General Agents who share our goal of long-term and mutually profitable partnerships and are integral to the companies’ success.

Both WSIC and WIC are registered with the NAIC and carry an A- (Excellent) rating, Financial Size Category XII ($1 Billion to $1.25 Billion) by A.M. Best.

Through a series of service agreements, Watford U.S. benefits from underwriting support and other services from Arch Underwriters Inc. (DBA AUI Insurance Services), a member of Arch Capital Group Ltd. Although Arch was one of the original sponsors of Somers in 2014, and remains a shareholder, the Somers companies are not subsidiaries of or members of Arch Capital Group.
